Yarn Care Recommendations

Mrs Peacock Yarns are all hand-dyed in small batches using professional wash-fast acid dyes. Due to the nature of hand-dyed yarn, there may be slight colour variation between skeins, even those dyed in the same batch as each skein is unique. If you are using more than one skein in a project we recommend you alternate skeins every couple of rows for a more consistent look.

After the colour has been set, we rinse the yarn thoroughly to ensure any further colour bleed is minimal, if there is any at all. However, please be aware that bleed is more likely with deeper, saturated shades. Adding ¼ cup of white vinegar to the water when blocking or washing will help to minimise any colour loss.

Washing and Drying Instructions:

We recommend hand washing in cool water with a pH neutral wool wash. Hot water and detergents that are not pH neutral can weaken the bond between dye and fibre and cause colour bleed. Please DO NOT use Eucalyptus wool wash as it is known to cause colour bleed. We use a dash of plant-based dishwash detergent which gently cleans without the worry of colour loss. We also recommend Eucalan Delicate Wash.

Please avoid agitation when washing as this can cause felting. Leave your project to soak for 30 minutes before gently squeezing out excess water. Rinse in cool water if not using Eucalan (which doesn’t require rinsing).

Lay out your project on a clean towel, roll up and squeeze gently to remove excess water. Lay flat to dry, and if blocking, lay on blocking mats and reshape, pinning with T-pins if necessary, to meet the suggested finished measurements of your project. Shawls and scarves are likely to require more stretching and pinning than sweater garments.

Always allow your finished item to dry naturally, away from sunlight or direct heat.
