Colour For The Soul - The Story of Mrs Peacock Yarns

Our story began when considering if, and how, I might share my love for hand-dyed yarn with others. The name of Mrs Peacock, from the mystery board game Cluedo, was quietly and clearly dropped into my “mental inbox” - and the concept and story of Mrs Peacock Yarns began to unfold from there.

The Cluedo Collection is my interpretation of the game’s iconic characters, along with colourways inspired by some of the murder weapons and crime scene locations. A few of these have naturally become self-striping colourways, such as the Dagger and Library colourways, as I sought the best way to represent them. And along the way, more collections have been added, including the beautiful tonals of our Stillness Collection, the shifting, blended colours of our variegated Seasonal Rhythms and Muted Mysteries collection, and the fun and sometimes more serious colour combinations of our self-striping yarns in the Whimsical and Year of Colour collections.

And who is Mrs Peacock?
My name is Cynthia and I live in beautiful New Zealand, where there are many more sheep than people, providing us with the valuable and sustainable resource of wool.

I am a life-long maker with a love of crafting and learning, and a deep interest in colour. My work is driven by a curiosity about how colours work together and play off each other, along with how colour can generate different feelings - bringing moments of quiet calm with neutrals, or of joy and excitement with a vibrant jewel tone.

I am a firm believer in “slow fashion” and the importance of considering the source and journey of our clothes. And for me, making is not just about the delight of the finished product, it is also about the joy in the journey and process of making and creating.

We invite you to experience the unfolding story of our yarn. Our hope is that as you work with our yarn, you gain pleasure observing the stripes or patterns of colour unfolding, and encounter the tactile joy of creating with your own hands.

We love seeing your projects as they transition from works in progress to finished objects, either in person at yarn festivals, or as you share their journey with us on social media.
