Quiet Times and Gentle Ways

Hello Yarn Lover,

And welcome to the first newsletter for 2026!

We have been enjoying some quiet moments over the last few months - a necessary remedy for the busy year that was 2025. We’ve been taking some lovely forest walks and making the most of an annual pass to Maungatautari Sanctuary Mountain (pictured above) - bathing in the cool green, shrouded by native trees and the beautiful birdsong of native birds thriving in this predator-free environment. Just the ticket for bringing some restorative balance to life!

But, the quietness from us does not mean that we have not been busy - quite the opposite, in fact! And so this newsletter is to let you know of a shop update coming on Monday 2 March at 7pm NZ time.

First up, we will be bringing you a new colourway on Monday. This soft and gentle one has been inspired by the quietening that begins in our corner of the world at this time of the year. The cicadas’ incessant chirping begins to dwindle until suddenly we are aware that it has disappeared completely. Bit by bit, the sun is a little later to rise in the mornings and sinks below the horizon a little earlier than it did previously. The temperatures also begin to drop, reminding us that we will soon be grabbing our knitwear once again - although this summer, the temperature fluctuations have been absolutely bonkers and not what we would have expected at all!

And so, let me introduce you to GENTLE WAYS …

This self-striping colourway features four stripes of equal width - soft white, light caramel, muted eucalyptus green and a faded denim blue. Plus, there are four Petite colours that will match for your contrast heels and toes - pictured above left to right, are TIDAL, CARAMELLO, EUCALYPT with ALBA on top. We’ve been working hard on replenishing our stock of Petites, so there should be plenty for you to choose from.

We have also dyed up some favourites from our Cluedo Collection. In the shop update there will be gobstopper balls and skeins of CANDLESTICK, THE LIBRARY, and DAGGER, along with matching Petites - suggestions for these are in each colourway’s description in the listings.

Also coming to the shop are a couple of favourites from our Year of Colour Collection last year - BOOM, BOOM, BLOOM and WINTER BOUQUET.

And not to forget those people who prefer a “quieter” pair of socks, we have also dyed up some lower contrast colourways - MONOCHROMIA, a medley of greys, LAKE REFLECTIONS, a combination of moody blues, and RAINFOREST, a lush collection of greens.

For ease of finding them, all of the above colourways will be in the Self-Striping Collection in our shop on Monday evening. We hope you find something that interests you from this first drop of self-striping yarn for the year.

And there is good news for our friends in the United States. You are once again able to purchase our yarn, this time with the government-imposed tariff added. As of right now, this tariff stands at 10% but we will be keeping up with any changes as they are announced and reflect them in the price. We are hoping that all systems are in place for the tariff to be collected at the time of sale so there will be nothing more for you to pay once the yarn lands in your country. If there are any glitches, we will be in touch with you straight away!

Perhaps not such great news now, in keeping in line with rising costs, we have introduced a small price increase to our self-striping yarn and Petite skeins this year and these prices are effective as of now.

In other more happy news though, we have been asked to be vendors again at Woolfest in Auckland, 23 May, and at Fibretron in Hamilton, 25 July. Pop these dates in your diary - we can’t wait to see you there!

Over the summer break we spent time working on our website to give it a freshen up. While our shop is hosted by the Etsy platform, you can use the links on our website to take you directly to the Collection you are interested in viewing on Etsy. Our website is also the place to read a little more about our story, see customers’ reviews, or send us a message. We would love for you to take a look.

As mentioned in recent newsletters, our plan for the next while is to bring you new colourways and new stock of existing colourways in shop updates throughout the year, as we are able - for now, creating new monthly Year of Colour colourways is on hold. We are also chugging away at getting stock ready for this year’s yarn festivals, on a schedule that aims for a better work-life balance.

Thank you for being a part of Mrs Peacock Yarns! Remember, we are just an email away if you have any questions about our yarn or its availability.

Until next time then,

Yours in yarn, Mrs Peacock
